Purple Tape Pedigree ‘Bad for Education’ Lookbook by Third Looks

I’m proud to present the lookbook for the debut collection from New York based label Purple Tape Pedigree. The 5-piece capsule ‘Good For Health’ collection includes 2 jerseys, 2 long-sleeve t-shirts, and a collaborative PTP x Third Looks ‘Pill’ coach’s jacket. The lookbook was creative directed by yours truly and we assembled a diverse group of friends and colleagues to represent the collection. No stylists were necessary as each person worked the pieces into their own personal style.

Inspiration for the collection includes Hong Kong cinema, Japanese anime from the 80’s, 20th century Brazilian surrealist art, post-2000 A.D. cyberpunks, and the onset of big city paranoia. The gear is available now on the PTP Garment District. New York heads will be able to see the gear in person at a special pop-up event and release party on May 31st (More details to be released shortly).

Très Bien Debut Spring Collection

Très Bien  has been pushing an impressive lineup of designers since it’s inception. The Stockholm shop has grown a worldwide audience and has consistently selected a selection of products that stylish men the world over covet. The shop recently announced their namesake menswear line which reflects the same high-low design ethos found in their buys.

The line itself is a calculated take on men’s staple which aims to bridge the gap between streetwear and high-fashion and includes a mix of jackets hoodies and t-shirts. The look is decidedly pared down. You should be able to mix pieces from this collection with everything from Rick and Raf to Dries and Supreme. Items are already starting to sell out so browse over Très Bien for the full collection.

Mr.Olive FW14 Lookbook

The fashion industry being stuck in it’s ways, we’re already getting peeks at Fall/Winter 2014 lookbooks. That being said, Japanese Mr.Olive really did a solid job of translating the classic film Serpico in this shoot and once again proves that Japan is doing America better than America. While the pieces don’t stray too far from the menswear status quo , the styling and presentation of this collection set it apart from the pack.

It’s a damn shame anytime fashion brands use cinema as inspiration and fall flat. While it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to find this brand readily on North American shores, the Mr.Olive collection will be available on ZOZOTOWN later this year.

Nike Sportswear 2014 Spring/Summer Tech Pack

One of my favorite purchases of 2013 were the two pairs of Nike Tech Fleece Sweatpants I got. To me they represented that sought after middle-ground been comfort, practicality and design. For Spring/Summer 2014 brings a new tech pack for men and women centered around the Tech Hyperfuse technology. In laymans terms this technology gives the fabric the combined benefits of being lightweight, breathable , and packable in a stripped down minimal aesthetic. The lineup includes windbreakers, vests and ponchos and is currently available exclusively through Nike.com. While I generally don’t like the HDR’ed appearance of many sports lookbooks, the execution of this particular campaign stands above the competition in my mind. Expect to see the gear hit select NSW retailers on May 1.

Talking About the Abstraction Fall/Winter 2014 Lookbook

It’s strange how brands put out Fall/Winter lookbooks when it’s not even Summer in the northern hemisphere yet but I digress. Japanese label Talking About the Abstraction has definitely been on my radar as they have been consistently delivering strong lookbooks for several seasons now.

While the styling may not be for everyone, there’s definitely easy pieces here that I would even recommend to guys who are even more timid with their style. There’s certainly a lot of brands in Japan really killing the whole re-purposed vintage Americana thing but the approach this brand takes has a certain edge to it that is hard to pinpoint. I will say that few brands have put together the grungy art professor aesthetic better than seen here.  After the jump for all the looks.

UNDERCOVERISM FW14 Lookbook

I’m happy to review the new Undercoverism FW14 lookbook for you guys. This collection comes off the Pyschocandy collection which was a monochromatic homage to the aesthetic of Jesus and the Mary Chain. For Fall/Winter 2014 Jun has selected a palette of muted earth tones and combined them with some patterns and more colorful prints/colors. The collection continues to define the evolution or ‘growing up’ of Undercover as a men’s brand.

Over the years UC has shed some of it’s more punk/streetwear roots and transitioned into a more straightforward collection of men’s staples with  subversive design elements sprinkled in throughout. This is a path that many of the OG Harajuku menswear brands have followed (WTAPS, Neighborhood and Visvim come to mind). For this collection the outerwear is the most exciting category. There’s some great coats and jackets in here , from the wool coats to signature UC updates takes on varsities and MA-1s.  The duck boots here also are a standout and I’m excited to see more photos of them in the coming weeks. Check the rest of the line after the jump and share your thoughts on the collection in the comments.

C.E SS14 Lookbook

C.E (Cav Empt) just released a lookbook for their Spring/Summer 2014 collection. The lookbook is done in the same visual style as this previously released video. Fans of the Japanese label may recognize some of the pieces which have already released, but it is nice to see select pieces styled together in these stills. Having had experience with several pieces of line I definitely highly recommend any of the graphic hoodies and crewnecks. The quality of printing found on the digitial sublimation T-shirts (such as the Burnbike or Gunpizz t-shirts) and button down shirts  is top notch as well. You can shop the collection through C.E Directly or through  North American stockists VFILES, Bdga, Wildstyle LA and RSVP Gallery.

Que Pasa Shop 2014 Editorial ‘Bubble Chins’

Que Pasa Shop is an online consignment shop that offers up select pieces from brands such as WTAPS, Undercover, Supreme, Engineered Garments, Our Legacy, Junya Watanabe and Comme des Garcons. The site has a tightly curated collection of styles from these brands (amongst many others) at  reasonable prices. If you’re looking to find some older gems, the site is definitely worth a visit. The team there hit me about up about premiering this editorial featuring some of the product that just launched (or will be launched over the next few days).

The editorial was shot on 35mm film and makes use of CCTV video to provide alternate angles of selected looks. I was definitely feeling the presentation and the color palette was vaguely reminiscent of Fallen Angels (one of my favorite flicks). You’ll be able to see the rest of the editorial after the jump as well as Third Look exclusive product photos of upcoming releases.  You can browse Que Pasa Shop’s entire selection of goods on their site and follow them on tumblr and instagram.
