This is a must have for any AKIRA fan as well as a perfect Christmas gift for the manga fan in your life. For the 35th anniversary of AKIRA this beautiful was released wit the original Japanese art and right-to-left reading format for the first time. The set includes six hardcover volumes, plus the hardcover Akira Club art book and an exclusive patch with the iconic pill design.
In 1982, Kodansha published the first chapter of Akira, a dystopian story set in Neo-Tokyo, a city recovering from thermonuclear attack where the streets have been ceded to motorcycle gangs and the rich and powerful run dangerous experiments on destructive, supernatural powers that they cannot control. In 1988, the manga was adapted into what was at the time the most expensive animated film ever made, which brought Akira’s influence out of the manga world and onto the global stage. Today, it remains a touchstone for artists, writers, filmmakers, and fans, retaining all the brutal impact and narrative intensity it had when Otomo first unleashed it onto the world.

As a huge fan both the Simpsons and Akira, I really enjoyed reading through the Bartkira Vol.1 Manga that came out in 2014. The un-official magna seamlessly combines the worlds of the Simpsons and Akira with work from over 50 artists. The work was very well received and now we have a new effort from Kaitlyn Sullivan which is a video trailer of a hypothetical Bartkira movie. The short clip replicates exact frames from the anime and is well worth watching for fans. Find more info online on the official Bartkira website and be out for forthcoming volumes of the manga.
I’m proud to present the lookbook for the debut collection from New York based label Purple Tape Pedigree. The 5-piece capsule ‘Good For Health’ collection includes 2 jerseys, 2 long-sleeve t-shirts, and a collaborative PTP x Third Looks ‘Pill’ coach’s jacket. The lookbook was creative directed by yours truly and we assembled a diverse group of friends and colleagues to represent the collection. No stylists were necessary as each person worked the pieces into their own personal style.
Inspiration for the collection includes Hong Kong cinema, Japanese anime from the 80’s, 20th century Brazilian surrealist art, post-2000 A.D. cyberpunks, and the onset of big city paranoia. The gear is available now on the PTP Garment District. New York heads will be able to see the gear in person at a special pop-up event and release party on May 31st (More details to be released shortly).
