Uniqlo x Jean-Michel Basquiat

Japanese fast fashion retailer Uniqlo has put out a series of UT graphic t-shirts in collaboration with the Estate Jean-Michel Basquiat foundation. The designs pull images from the influential artist’s paintings. My personal favorite is the all-over print design, be sure to check out some of the detailing on these shirts, particularly the screen printing on the insider collar which is a nice touch. All shirts are $19.99 and can be purchased on the Uniqlo site HERE.

If you are a fan of Basquiats art, the retrospective at the Gagosian Gallery in Chelsea is still ongoing. See our post on it HERE.

Video: Awkwafina “NYC Bitche$

I read the clickbait-y ‘Can an Asian Woman Be Taken Seriously in Rap?‘ article on The Cut introducing Awkafina. Government name Nora Lum, she is a New York based rapper/producer who I was going to write off due to the comparison to Childish Gambino (Who I can’t cosign under any circumstances). After giving a few … Read more

The Soloist x Oliver Peoples 4

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Oliver Peoples showroom in soho to check out their upcoming designs. What excited me the most was the forth collaboration between Takahiro Miyashita of The Soloist. Since the sub-lines intial launch, Oliver Peoples has been steadily cranking out beautiful eyeglasses that would be perfect to pair with clothes by the Soloist.

This time around the designs are simple but bold. The voluminous shape of the frames was created by shearing a pressed sheet of acetate to 12mm thick at the hinge, resulting in the frame front appearing to flow backward.  The distinctive styles boast sharp-edged beveling of varied widths along the frame front and temples.

The icing on the cake is the special cleaning cloth that comes with each pair, which is designed with the Soloist paisley bandana pattern. All models should be available now at select Oliver Peoples retailers.

Special thanks to Jon Carlo for inviting me.

Photo Tools of the Trade: Ryan Skinner

The questions every photographer gets asked are “What camera do you use?” or “What camera is the best to buy?”

There’s no such thing as a perfect camera, but it is fun to explore the different results varied cameras , lenses, filters and film can give. Experienced photographers select the tools best suited for the job that they are most comfortable with.  This will be an on-going feature where I profile photographers on the cameras they like to shoot on.

To launch this series I spoke with Ryan of Fortune and Fear about his camera collection and his favorite things to shoot on.

Hefna Gwap: The Bay to NY

Hefna Gwap is a rapper from East Palo Alto california. Founder of the Elegant Caviar Group and a Smokers Club member, he made the move from the Bay to New York last year to push his music to the next level. I caught up with Hef at a recording session late last week at Premier Studios.

How was the whole process of moving to New York? What brings you here?

First off, I have two daughters. Everything I rap about I was doing it. I was selling dope and running in houses and robbing and shit. I had my first daughter (she’s two now). When I had my second daughter, it was a wake-up call. Alot of my close friends started getting killed or going to jail. Alot of people I shot videos for, alot of the people I was editing videos for got killed. Some of the people’s videos I was editing , they got killed right after I moved to New York in October. I was happy to leave, I did alot and I didn’t want to do that type of shit any more.

Cara Delevingne in Interview Magazine

Photography: PETER LINDEBERGH
Styling: KARL TEMPLER

Cara Delevingne exists at the perfect center point between 2013 bad bitch and 1960’s French New Wave cinema muse. Late last year Cara was named as the model of the year at the British Fashion Awards and she has become a mainstay on billboards and runways the world over. Known not just for her unmistakable features but also for her quirky, engaging personality Interview Magazine has put out some of my personal favorite images of Cara to date.

There’s some not so work safe images after the jump so take heed if your company’s HR department has a policy against art tits.

MUNSOO KWON FW13 Collection

Korean designer MUNSON KWON has been designing for several seasons now but his Fall/Winter 2013 is by far the strongest I’ve seen from him. Based around the ‘Lost Boys-eque’ idea of being a kidult, the collection merges popular culture from the 80s-90s (through which many of us grew up) and tailored menswear. An assortment of duffle coats, varsity jackets, beanies and cardigans are given a playful edge through the use of pattern (polka-dots) and colorful details (such as the toggles on the duffle coat).

South Korea is emerging as a powerful force in men’s fashion and I’m excited to see if brands like Munsoo will be able to break into western markets.
