Interview w/ PTP – Purple Tape Pedigree

If you visit this site reguarly Note and Geng Grizzly are familar faces by now. They’ve both had style profile features here in the past and I recently reviewed some beers with them in the recent Craft Beer Goons joint. Between the events, new releases through Purple Tape Pedigree and their weekly radio show Fresh Out the Box it’s safe to say the homies got alot on their plate.

Later this week I’ll be dropping an official Third Looks mix by Geng Grizzly. Come celebrate it’s release this Saturday July 13 at DWMS2 where I will be hosting alongside some musical heavy  hitters. There will be performances by Young Gleesh, Grande Marshall and DJ Sets by Geng, Mista Whoa, Tommy Kruise and Farrington G. This is one you will NOT want to miss. All the details on the event can be found HERE

To shed a little more light on both prolific members of PTP , I sat down with the homies and interviewed them on some key topics including  personal style, favorite film and their current taste in music.

Style Inspiration: Summertime

New York is stuck in the middle of a major heatwave right now and I’m sure many other locales worldwide are feeling it as well. When the heat is sweltering it’s pretty hard to get inspired to throw on a dope fit. I’ve put together some visual inspirations to me that express summertime, I hope they inspire you to try something new this season. With summertime dressing, less is more, and it’s about maintaining comfort without sacrificing self-expression in your outfits.

Air Max 95 (London) Hometurf Pack QS

Being that it’s summer I was in the market for a new mesh sneaker to rock. I wasn’t into Air Max 95s growing up but they’ve grown on me in recent years. This being my first pair of 95s, I found them incredibly comfortable and this colorway is one of the favorite iterations I’ve seen in this model. The gradient on these almost feels like a hand-painted custom as there’s no visible stitching between the grays (due to the hyperfuse construction). The finishing touch is the custom tag on the tongue and the striped pattern on the inside of the sneaker.

I was a bit late getting these, but they’re part of the Hometurf Pack and take cues from the colors of the London transportation system.  Look out for more summer sneaker coverage on the site very soon.

Summer Sneakers: Nike Vandal High Supreme Pack

In a past life I was huge into sneakers. After selling off much of my collection, my interest in sneakers has really come back in the past year or so. Nike has of course been killing the game with models like the Flyknit but past their running line, there has been a steady stream of excellent retros as well. The Vandal has long been one of my favorite Nike silhouettes but the high-top is usually overshadowed by the better known Air Force One and Dunk models. I’m kind of a purist when it comes to Vandals and believe they ALWAYS look best in their OG nylon incarnations. Lucky for me Nike is dropping some great summer colorways of the Vandal High Supreme  this July. I got my eye on the blue pair but feel free to comment on which colorway is your personal favorite.

Coveted: Nike Gyakusou Lunarspider LT+ 2

I posted in September about the FW12 Nike Gyakusou footwear collection but now I am sharing photos of my personal pairs of Nike Gyakusou Lunarspider LT+2s from the Fall/Winter 2011 collection. After getting the purple pair I knew I wouldn’t be happy unless I had both colorways. The lunarspiders are built on the standard lunar sole but have Nike + and flywire technology built in to them making them a stylish and practical accompaniment to any running kit.

What these sneakers execute so well is the mixture of colors. The contrasting teal sole on the orange pair. The light blue patent hit on the back of the purple colorway. These sneakers pop without ever screaming for attention. My favorite detail on these sneakers is the gradient carbon fiber  on the midsole.

I appreciate products that stand at the crossroads of aesthetics and function and that is probably why I cherish these pairs. To me their visual design tells the story of Gyakusou.
