Best Items from Supreme SS15

Supreme has it’s seasonal launches down to a science at this point. The routine goes as follows they close the store before the start of a new season, put up an annual advertising program (this time with Neil Young outfitted in a box logo) and then they release a preview of what pieces are to come this Spring/Summer 2015. Supreme has transcended skateboarding and streetwear to become a ubiquitous New York brand; one that you’re bound to see countless times walking around downtown Manhattan.

I’ve gone through the preview and filtered down to what I think are the standout items. Of course there hasn’t been any leaks of the collaborations to come this season, but it has been confirmed that we should be seeing a Undercover x Supreme collaboration quite soon.

See my personal picks from the SS15 collection.

Supreme Reversible Cotton MA-1

The market has been filled with good variations on the MA-1 bomber and I like that this reversible cotton version keeps it straight to the point. A decent departure from the usual nylon fabrication, the jacket can be worn plenty of ways and should pair well with typical streetwear staples.

Supreme x Schott A-2 Leather Jacket

The Schott collaboration has become an annual thing at this point and this A-2 bomber should provide a slimmer fit than repro brands and a cheaper pricepoint than higher end Japanese labels.

Supreme Terry Football Top

While it’s hard to recall burning temps in the middle of a frigid Febuary, terry cloth will be a welcome fabric come July.

Minotaur SS15 Collection Lookbook ‘Urban Resort’

Some brands look like what their brand name sounds like, this is not one of those brands. Minotaur doesn’t look like the half-man creature of Greek myth, instead the Japanese label delivers clean, non-nonsense minimal clothing. While the garments themselves are relatively nondescript, the lookbook shows the care taken on fit, fabrics and little utilitarian details.

The spring/summer 2015 collection is shot very minimally allowing the viewer to focus in on details on each individual item. Unfortunately distribution for the brand is still quite limited outside their native Japan. That being said hit the proxy and check their site for more info on how to cop.

Cyderhouse SS15 Collection Lookbook

Cyderhouse is a difficult label to describe or pin down. The Japanese label is designed by Yuji Okamoto who pulls from disparate inspirations and blends them to create eye-grabbing pieces that draw from grunge, punk and psychedelic drug culture.  I’ve come across some amazing items from the brand from past collections and it seems there are many items worth adding to your wardrobe this time around. While many Japanese brands are out to tastefully refine men’s classics, Cyderhouse is about warping them into something loud , strange and slightly aggressive. I’d place the brand in similar territory as brands such as Facetasm and Diet Butcher Slim Skin. Find a list of stockists on the brand’s website, which is also exploring for the flashy graphics and more detailed product shots.

The North Face Purple Label SS15 Lookbook

The North Face Purple Label has evolved into what the regular North Face brand would be in an utopian American Society. The Japan sub-brand is understated, lightly branded and has a practical slim cut that still allows for layering. Select items are available for both men and women. On the men’s side, the outerwear once again steals the show with a clean color palette of beiges, navy, white and charcoal. There’s also splashes of color with olive green , orange and a really great rainforest print. The styling is easy to emulate for those who really want to buy into the brands look. For those who don’t want to splash out on some of the more standout jackets and coats, there’s plenty of basics (shirting, trousers, turtlenecks) and accessories (check the Bell hat featured in a few looks) to help you fill gaps in your wardrobe.

Oh lastly, I also have to give a shoutout to whoever casts these female models for North Face Purple Label’s shoots, as they definitely killed it again with another girl who’s waifu status. Anyway click through to see all the looks from the spring/summer 2015 season and check the official site for more info on the entire range

Visvim SS15 Editorial in SENSE Magazine

As per usual each season Visvim introduces their seasonal collection in the pages of Japanese men’s style mag SENSE. The spring/summer 2015 selection isn’t much of a departure from past collections although it does seem like Hirkoi wanted to bring a more casual approach this time around as seen in the graphic tees and some of the busier ‘vintage’ prints. Of particular note is the return of the townsend fishtail in an washed cotton and a striking red Nomad jacket. See both pieces after the jump and shop select items on the visvim webstore or retailers such as SSENSE, Farfetch and Barney’s.

Tokyo based streetwear label C.E had a big 2014. The brand grew it’s audience and distribution outside Japan and it continued to be a favorite of shop buyers and celebrities including Rihanna. Nanamica SS15 Lookbook

Nanamica is for all the understated ballers out there. The brand isn’t one you turn to for attention grabbing gear, instead look to the Japanese label to deliver on all the wardrobe essentials and also for great outerwear pieces that make technical improvements on traditional designs. This season contains an assortment of slim trousers and what look to be perfect summer shorts. Also of note are the rain-proofed Gore-tex outerwear.

Sasquatchfabrix SS15 Lookbook

Sasquatchfabrix is a really hard brand to describe to people.  To call the label ‘eclectic’ would be an understatement. Sasquatchfabrix is able to mesh really varied influences and inspirations into products that feel fresh each season. Spring/Summer 2015 is another strong showing; this time with a focus on re-interpreting of traditional Japanese garments. There’s alot of prints used and the looks alternate between baggy, volumes pants and oversized/jackets and shirting. While layering in collections often feels forced , here the fabrics look light enough that wearing a few of these pieces would be more than just a fashion statement but an exercise in comfort as well.

Phenomenon SS15 Lookbook

Tokyo based label Phenomenon releases this lookbook to promote it’s spring/summer 2015 collection. The brand has always been identified with it’s over the top takes on streetwear and while it retains it’s wild streak, the Japanese brand has become more refined since it’s beginnings. There’s still tons of details in most of the garments in here, a MA-1 sleeve pocket on a stadium jacket? Check. Severely ripped up denim? Check. Overall though I really did enjoy the photography here and the use of regular people over traditional models. The whole lookbook feels more like a page out of Tune Magazine, and in that regard it’s successful. I can also grant Phenomenon of pairing mens and womenswear together in some of the lookbook shots in a way that isn’t cheesy or overwrought.

C.E SS15 Video Presentation

In past interviews, C.E brand founders Sk8thing and Toby Feltwell stated that they saw themselves as outside the traditional fashion system in Japan, so it’s not surprising that their presentation for their Spring/Summer 2015 felt more like an subterranean nightclub than a runway show. Backed by a DJ set by Rezzett and eye-grabbing visuals by Bacon , the … Read more
