We may have hit peak cross-body bag in 2018, but in 2019 a functional easy to throw on bag is still a necessity. As always, Rick Owens places his own signature on the style with this Alien bag by DRKSHDW. Crafted in tan canvas, it includes external Velcro and zip pockets and a laminated window enclosing a photographic print and a patch that reads ‘Aliens’. The theme fits in with the larger SS19 collection which focuses around the paranormal.

A denim jacket is a key wardrobe staple that can be worn almost all year round.  I’ve went and picked out 5 of my favorites from the Fall/Winter 2013 season.

Neighborhood Stockman-D/C Jacket

A western-inspired light washed denim jacket from Neighborhood. The fading on the arms and body are quite believable and not overdone. The light color makes this easy to pair with chinos, cords and other fall/appropriate pants. Subtle branding and gold hardware round out the piece. Available at Haven for $429.

Visvim Social Sculpture 101 Damaged

The jacket has everything you look for in a denim jacket. Quality 12oz selvedge denim construction, subtle side pockets and an amazing wash. Visvim sets out to improve upon men’s staples in considered meaningful ways, and in many ways this is the best Levi’s Type-II style jacket on the market.  1070 EUR at Firmament Berlin.

 A.P.C Denim Jacket

With a dark wash that is easy to pair with almost any outfit this A.P.C denim jacket is perfect for anyone who lives in the suburbs and wants to out-do every other guy in a 5mile radius. Based on Lee rider jackets, this jacket is a little more comfortable than breaking in something a totally raw denim jacket. I would also recommend this to anyone with the APC jean starter kit or if you work at a web startup. $290 at Mr.Porter.

Rick Owens DRKSHDW Worker’s Jacket

It’s a shame this DRKSHDW jacket doesn’t photograph as well as it looks in person. Rick delivers quality slim (but still slightly strange) fits and the denim is always good quality (although never selvedge). This design is more minimal than we usual see from Rick for his denim line, if indigo isn’t your thing this black worker’s jacket is a good bet. $829 at The Corner.

Undercover Black Quilted-Sleeve Denim Jacket

While now the contrast material sleeve thing seems to be everywhere in 2013, Undercover was one of the original brands to really implement it well.  It has become something of a brand trademark they have played around with season to season. The quilting on the nylon sleeves adds some texture and the raw edges on the bottom hem set this out against the more luxe street goth thing every is doing now. Just don’t pair this with leather sweat pants. $815 at SSENSE.

Alyssa wears Rick Owens DRKSHDW Poplin Jacket, Rick Owens Spring/Summer 2009 ‘Eagle’ T-shirt, Chronicles of Never Cube Necklace

The first Third Looks ‘It Girl’ was Alyssa, if you haven’t seen her feature be sure to take a look HERE. With the weather quickly transitioning to chilly autumn nights I thought this would be an appropriate time to post up these photos of Alyssa borrowing my Rick Owens DRKSHDW poplin jacket and t-shirt. Lending a girl your jacket is a classic gentleman move that is a no brainer if they can look this good in it. Chivalry might be dead but thankfully Rick Owens isn’t.

As promised here is Part 2 of ‘A Study in Contrasts’ shot by Rebekah Seok.

It’s so inspiring to see how much joy Rebekah gets from shooting ; she’s one of the reasons I’ve become interested in taking up film photography. Her photography style couldn’t be more different than my own but we both share a desire to capture the people and things in our reality we find most compelling. Film and digital photography are different beasts but the most influential variable is always the person behind the lens.

Rebekah just got a twitter, you can follow her HERE and see more of her photos on her Tumblr.

This is the first Third Looks editorial.  It’s an exploration on contrasts : Black & white vs color imagery, monochromatic outfits vs bright pops of color and eye-catching patterns, film vs digital photography.

The objective of this editorial is to show that even  simple outfit concepts  (for example a denim jacket and trousers) can be executed in wildly different ways.  Many current fashion editorials are focused on the creation of a fantastical mono-branded  aesthetic. A Study in Contrasts mimics the label-mixed reality of everyday dressing and serves as a reminder that how you wear something is just as important as what you are wearing. No matter the labels and pieces you select, I believe that your personality and personal style should shine through.

Part 2 shot on film by Rebekah Seok coming soon.
