Rick Owens has his own special way of taking ubiquitous men’s staples and perverting them into something slightly grotesque but undeniably captivating. As he’s done with the Rick dunk (as it’s popularly referred to) , Rick has taken on the Timberland boot this season in the form of these Plinth Hiker Boots. Taking the basic silhouette of a Timb and making it extreme, he’s used thick suede leather and slapped it onto chunky exaggerated sole. The trademark Rick side-zip returns this time accompanied by a myriad of lace eyelets. These are boots that take some getting used to but as they were seen prominently at his FW13 runway show, they are only wearable to guys who have both the requisite funds and confidence level. You may hate these now, but I see these becoming a staple model for Rick moving forward. Get these at Oki-Ni.

Timbs in summer has always been a strong look. All-white Timberland boots can often look oh so slightly off. Art Shudy comes to your rescue with their own timb-inspired boot for men contstructed from 100% rubber. White on a light tonal lug sole and with black/white laces. At $150, these are worth picking up from the VFILES shop. Just don’t wear them with DADA.
The homie Harry submitted these Raf Simons boots from Autumn/Winter 2006 for a coveted feature. He’s owned them so long and beat them up quite well and he didn’t have alot to say about them. He summarized his feelings on these in the following passage.
6 Canadian winters. 4 soles sewn on. 2 heels replaced. 1 major re-attachment surgery. Countless polishes and salt treatments. Still alive and kicking.
I’ve regretted selling some of my early Raf pieces in the past so it always makes me so happy to see my friends who kept their Raf stuff and worn it to hell. What I love about these boots are the buckle detailing at the ankle. Buckle straps are usually hit or miss on men’s boots but this is a really great iteration of that concept. The sleek shape , beautiful leather make these absolutely worth hunting down. I suppose I’ll leave it at this, if you’re looking for a perfect black boot, don’t compromise and rush getting something that you don’t love. It’s better to wait for the pair that feels exactly right.
